Followers of this blog and Intelligent Partnership’s MD, Guy Tolhurst, may remember that back in Dec 2010 Guy spent his Christmas break volunteering at a very special school in Kenya ( Christmas at the Destiny Garden School) and has since been sponsoring a  little girl called Dina, who attends the school, as a personal project.

Destiny Garden Primary School (DGS) is a charity school dedicated to educating disadvantaged children in Mtongwe,  one of the poorest suburbs of Mombasa.  The school focuses on supporting the most vulnerable children in their society – many of them are orphans and a high proportion of them are HIV positive.

One of the many things that makes DGS so special is that it provides a nutritious cooked lunch for all the children each day . It is not uncommon for families to go without food –  for many of the children the lunch they receive at the school is their only proper meal of the day and this is pivotal to the success of the project. The feeding programme is one of the main reasons the guardians, many who don’t realise the importance in education having not received one themselves,  allow the children to attend the school and without it the school would most likely lose pupils and fail.

When Intelligent Partnership heard that the essential feeding programme was in danger due to lack of funding we stepped in, and from April will be sponsoring 30 children a month, which will enable the programme to continue.

A small donation has huge value in Kenya and £10 per month for each of the 300 children is all it takes to run the school efficiently.  Every penny donated is sent directly to finance the school in Mombasa.

Guy is also adding to his Kenyan Family and is now personally sponsoring an additional four children alongside Dina. We hope to have a progress report on Guy’s kids to share with you soon!
