School ended on a high for all the children of the Destiny Garden School in Mtongwe this summer. Amazingly volunteers have provided everything from new school shoes to an LCD and TV player. The incredible generosity of the supporters of the school have meant that a critical eye operation went ahead and the school now proudly sports solar panels meaning precious energy when needed.
The 4 solar panels which will generate enough electricity to run fans, lighting and two computers in Classroom 6, together with 2 security lights and a water pump. This has caused great excitement all round, electricity being a rare commodity that most of the children do not have in their homes. Now DGS has lighting in one of the classrooms, it plans to introduce some adult education classes in the evenings to give something back to the local community.
Guy Tolhurst’s sponsored children have all had a fantastic year, with Dinah voted as the best lead dancer and Ismael representing DGS in the poetry section, of the Kenyan Music Festival.
The UK based charity that supports the school www.destinychildren.co.uk/ will be holding a charity dinner later this year in support of the school and everyone is welcome. Full details are available here.
